Patch repair a hole on old school drywall. This Old Florida home built in the 60s had layers of drywall and plaster. This old drywall and plaster combination makes patching repairing holes in drywall more involved then newer construction. These homes were constructed to last and so everything about them is tough. This home has a solid concrete floor and block walls with tie beam. The walls were framed using 2x4 and drywall was hung on them. On top of the drywall a thick layer of plaster was applied as that was the style at the time. Because of this process, patching drywall on these older homes isn't as straight forward as doing so on a modern home. In some cases 3/4" drywall can be purchased or 1/2" and 1/4" pieces layered on top of each other will get the desired depth to plaster and finish over. I made this video because I have worked on these old homes and have had a lot of encounters trying to cut in new with old and troubleshooting how to make everything look proper. There may be other ways to go about patching the walls this is just my process for this particular job. The drywall tape I used in this video is grid tape however there is a standard solid tape commonly used as a standard in construction. I like the grid tape for this project because of its flexibility to conform to any openings that are present.
